Health and Social Care

Health Care comprises of Health and Social Care and Child Development which are crucial elements of the curriculum at Park Academy West London (PAWL). The aim of the curriculum is to ensure all students experience and develop key life skills and knowledge. This will ensure they are equipped with the skills and attributes they need for future learning and entering the world of work. The curriculum is continuously linked to career opportunities and pathways, ensuring that students develop an understanding of how their learning can lead to a variety of career options.  The underpinning values of both subjects is to develop student’s ability to show care, compassion and effective communication. The Cultural Capital is a key part of the curriculum, which increases student participation and understanding of the subject content. Students will be provided with opportunities to put theory into practice.

Key Stage 4

OCR Cambridge National Level ½ in Child Development

  • R018: Health and well-being for child development – externally assessed exam (1 hour 15 minutes) (50%)
  • R019: Understand the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to 5 years – coursework (25%)
  • R020: Understand the development of a child from birth to five years – coursework (25%)

Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care Level 1/2

  • Component 1:  Human lifespan development – coursework (30%)
  • Component 2:  Health and Social Care Services and Values – coursework (30%)
  • Component 3:  Health and Wellbeing – externally assessed exam (2 hour) (40%)

Key Stage 5

Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care (equivalent to 1 A Level)

  • Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development – externally assessed exam (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care – externally assessed exam (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs – coursework
  • Unit 12: Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs – coursework

Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (equivalent to 2 A levels)

  • Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development – externally assessed exam (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care – externally assessed exam (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Unit 4: Enquiries into current research in Health and Social Care – controlled assessment (independent 8-10 hours)
  • Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs – coursework
  • Unit 7: Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care – coursework
  • Unit 8: Promoting Public Health – coursework
  • Unit 12: Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs – coursework
  • Unit 14: Physiological disorders or Unit 10 Sociological perspectives – coursework
